"We did not go with any prepared position on the federal side, but, Ojukwu came with a paper he prepared. His prepared position was on a pink paper.

"Usually, pink paper at the staff college is directing staff solution to the problem. But by the time I returned, I was ill; I had fever. I could not make any statement. But, Ojukwu went to the radio to make a statement and said the things we never agreed on.

"David Ejoor was the one who called me one early morning to ask if I had heard what Ojukwu said, and I said no. He then read what Ojukwu said, and i asked David, in all honesty, if that was what we agreed. He said no.

"To keep the country together was not a task that I could do alone. I needed the cooperation and understanding of every Nigerian. And, in order to ensure we kept the country together, I reckoned that we needed to have discussions among ourselves. We had a civil servant who was exceptionally experienced and good.

"We went there (Aburi) to restore the trust of our country. If we were working together, anyone with conscience will assuage the feelings of the south easterners. But, Ojukwu thought otherwise. He had in mind all along, based on what happened to his people in the north that secession was the only way out.

"But, we were thinking of the whole country, because all parts of the country were involved. The military was involved in the killings of South easterners in the North."

There will be an implosion if the country do not go into restructuring - Bayelsa State Governor

The governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson has cautioned the federal government and those kicking against restructuring and seeing it to be secession as haters of the country.

Governor Dickson praised those calling for the country to be restructured as good patriots noting that there is need for the country to be restructured as the country will be rated in the next 10 to 20 years to come as one of the most populated nations on the earth.
The Bayelsa State governor also queried those canvassing for No restructuring as it poses secession describing it as false. Stating that Bayelsans and the entire Niger Delta is more Nigerian than any other region as the region has been sustaining the country for over 60 years.

The governor stated this on his first October speech in an interview on Sunday after a Thanksgiving service to commemorate the 57th independence day of Nigeria at the King of Glory chapel at the state house Yenagoa.

He said;

"My view is that there is an urgent national imperative for us to eview the country. Maybe some people have problem with the word restructuring, but we have to reexamine our nations foundation and see how we can make necessary adjustment that will promote a more stable prosperous Nigeria.

"The structure of the country as it is now is not sustainable. Very often, a number of our leaders misconstrue the call for restructuring to mean seccession. No, those calling for restructuring are the patriot of Nigeria because, we want to lay a foundation that will last for the next 50, 100 to 200 years and above to come.

"Those people forget that in the next 10, 20 years the country will be one of the most populous nations on the face of the earth. You can't have such density of human population arguing everyday and every time about the injustices and imbalances, there will be an implosion.

"So, it is best for us to have a consensus. If there is any problem at all, it is how we go about it not whether we should attempt restructuring or review or not.

"That to me is taken for granted and I am happy President, Muhammadu Buhari said he was not opposed to restructuring. We are Nigerians, and nobody is more Nigerian us, nobody is more Nigerian than a bayelsan or a Niger Delta man.

"We are the people that have been sustaining this country for the over 60 years. Nobody has the right to question our Nigerianess."

The governor said.
