Herdsmen: Niger Delta Boils as herdsmen attack Senator Imoke community in Cross River State one killed

The former governor of Cross River state Senator Liyel Imoke's community has been reportedly attacked by the Fulani herdsmen living one person dead.


The community of former governor of Cross river state, Liyel Imoke has been attacked by the Fulani herdsmen. Vanguard reports on Monday that youths of the community had crash with the herdsmen over cows destroying farmlands.
It was gathered that an APC councillorship aspirant was shot dead over clash between Fulani herdsmen and some community youths over killing of a cow.

The report have it that, one of the herdsmen claimed that some youths from the community had killed one of its cow according to an eye witness identified as Joseph Ugbor stated that this resulted to a fight that led to the killing of the aspirant.
He said:

"The conflict attracted security personnel from Ugep, Yakurr local government area who swiftly moved in to put the situation under control by arresting and detaining some youths and elders from Itigidi.

"These herdsmen have no regards for our land and crops. They think they have a right over our land and can take their cows anywhere.

"What has just happened in Itigidi is a pointer to this fact. We hope the government will swiftly wade into this matter before more liver are lost."

Joseph Ugbor said.
A source who spoke on condition of anonymity said the arrest of the youths and elders has irked some youths prompting them to protest against what they termed "Illegal arrest and detaintion of their youths and elders by the police while orders had taken refuse in the bush.

Police public relation officer from the Cross River Police command, Ms Irene Ugbo said normalcy has been restored with the detach of Anti riot Policemen to the place.
